Another Thought on Palin
Still thinking about narcissism and the political imagination, a Judith Warner piece brought up a similar set of issues. To wit: This question of relating, of empathy, of identification. Perhaps strangely, what brings Warner to this awkward recognition is a photo of Palin meeting with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. Warner looks at Palin's expression in that photo and sees a kind of failure, but it is a failure she recognizes. It's a problematic argument on a number of different levels - reading a photograph, this question of shared failures - but perhaps one worth reading.
