Cemeteries and Gravestones Which Strike a Person's Eye

Finally beginning to read in more detail a stack of documents I picked up from the Republican Archives in Ankara. A passage which jumped out:
"In the investigation that I undertook, the village of Eyüp has truly been left unattended. Whichever way one looks are cemeteries and gravestones which strike a person's eye. Life is quite backwards. The distance with the city and the lack of transportation does not provide the opportunity for the youth and the people to benefit from the other districts." (From a report written by Behçet Uz, send to the Republican People's Party on April 4, 1943)
It comes out of a larger set of documents debating the construction of a Halkevi in Eyüp during the 1940s.
