A friend of mine wrote
a lovely welcome to spring the other day and opened with this:
Spring in Istanbul is tulips and mimosa, freesias and marigolds; bright
dresses and sandals and sunglasses; sun one day, rain the next; cool
breezes and open windows; sneezing and swollen eyes; green water turned
blue. From the deck of the ferry, the shards of sun on the water pop
like oil on a hot pan, so the sea appears to be bubbling with light. The
horizon glows and the sky is blinding; under the new sun, the winter
landscape is turning red, a fire of renewal and rebirth.
It seemed a fitting complement for the photo.
